Justin is the Associate Principal Clarinet of Orchestra Victoria and regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician including appearances with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Justin has taught clarinet and saxophone in schools across Australia and from his private studio for over ten years and is passionate about providing aspiring players of all levels the necessary tools and knowledge to play with greater ease and fluency.
Justin has appeared on numerous Live broadcasts for 3mbs and ABC radio and recently recorded "The Nutcracker" ballet as principal clarinet with Orchestra Victoria for ABC Classics.
As a soloist Justin has performed with the Tasmanian Discovery Orchestra, Jan Sedivka Camerata and the Hobart Chamber Orchestra and is also engaged for public recitals and residencies. Passionate about developing new music, Justin instigated 10 new works by Australian composers in 2014. In addition to this he has performed with leading new music ensembles Syzygy, Opus House, Arcko Symphonic Project and a founding member of the Rubiks Collective.
As an Alumnus and Fellow of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), teachers have included David Thomas, Paul Dean, Stephen Kenyon and Floyd Williams. He has also performed in masterclasses with clarinetists Michael Collins, Paul Meyer and Dimitri Ashkenazy, Thorsten Johanns, David Campbell and Frank Celata to name a few.
To date, some career highlights include performing Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro with Dale Barltrop (2012), the Schubert Octet with Anthony Marwood (2013), the world premiere of Paul Dean’s E-flat clarinet concertino No Exit (2014) and a performance of the Quartet for the End of Time with Eureka Ensemble at the Peninsula Summer Music Festival (2015).
